First steps...


I do not have a lot to share so I will keep this brief. At this point I have a general idea of what I need to do going forward, but not necessarily how to do it. Even in this short amount of time, I have learnt a lot.

  • Software design skills can and should be used to design games (creating a project plan, setting deadlines, conducting surveys). For some reason I never thought to create a project plan (a.k.a. Game Design Document) for a game.
  • Maps are not constructed entirely in 3D modeling software. Most designers create reusable components.
  • If I don't make a schedule (reserve time), nothing will ever get done. Despite being a fun hobby, it seems I am too easily distracted to make meaningful progress.

If you want to get into game design, you should always be doing something you find difficult. When I was first getting into game design, I started out with Roblox. Roblox is a great tool, but the problem was I became stagnant, I stopped learning from it. At the time I did not notice, but looking back I can see that anything I did not challenge myself with, was no better then my works years earlier. So today I am challenging myself, by trying to write a brief devlog.
