Change of Plan


When things don’t work, you change them. And this is the case for this project.

I’m going to divide this topic into 2 sections. First I’m going to highlight what is not working, than I am going to go into what I plan to do to fix it. And hopefully by documenting this, we can all learn something from it!

What does not work

Most if not all of this can be boiled down to, “I over planned.” Not to be confused with, “I planned too much” (although I did that too).

  • I can’t get enough feedback to make calculated decisions.
  • I’m doing a lot of planning, but hardly ever see the results.
  • It is far too difficult to keep track of everything myself.

What will change

I can’t keep doing this. If I was working with a team, then I’d have a reason for all of this planning. I would need to keep everyone focused on a carefully calculated, central goal. But this is just not the case for this project. So here is what I’m going to change:

  • Tests will be used to show progress, not to get feedback.
    • I will still post these early builds and give a short description.
    • They will no longer include a survey portion.
    • When I need feedback, I will ask for it directly.
    • Unsolicited feedback is still appreciated greatly!
  • When I have an idea for something, I will try it. Rather than jamming it into my central plan.
  • I will be focusing on simplifying the project.
    • My focus will be on what I need to finish the game first.
    • Anything I find difficult to make, I will be practicing or reworking.

In the end, this is a passion project. I am making the game I want and nothing is going to change that.

Bonus

As always, when I post anything, I like to show or give something exciting to look forward to. I knew when I started this project I would need a lot of 3D models, whoever I wasn’t very good at 3D modeling, so I have been practicing!
