Week 3 Recap


STUFF week!!!

A bit of a chaotic week, working on a little of everything. The goal being to get the basics in place for fun gameplay

Entrance portals

Last week I ran out of time, so the first thing I did this week was finish entrance portals. As a refresher, entrance portals are the secrets, you interact with, can use items to unlock, could be anything. Fun!

Items

Speaking of items, I also started work on an items system. The game is going to have 2 types of items. Items and clothing.

  • Items will show on top of the character and can be used within the world.
  • Clothing changes your appearance and can alter the world.

Right now, you can switch between items and clothing by pressing 2 sets of keys. No fumbling through menus!

Character

I also mentioned a character! I needed one, for scale and also to figure out the design. Started with the design than the movement.

Designs

For the rest of the week, my focus was on the design, figuring out how to take the dream and turn it into a reality. Originally I had planned for worlds to have a tilted downward view.

But that was too complicated (and looked bad). So now my plan is to use a mix of isometric and head-on views (depending on the world).

Isometric for stylistic or more complex spaces. Head on for longer stretches and simple spaces (what Yume Nikki has).
