Week 4 Recap


Priority time!!!!

Starting to really narrow down what I need to consider this game to be “releasable”. Not finished, but finished enough for a gamejam (I want to work on this more after that).

Fixes

Being a solo dev, I tend to work fairly casually. It has advantages but a disadvantage is that I can stray from original plans over time. That happened last week with clothing.

The week before I had added clothing, by designing an entire character with clothing and allowed cycling through character designs. This would work (technically), but it’s very impractical and would not allow for any mixing and matching.

UNACCEPTABLE!

So this week I separated the clothing from the character, made a bunch of new clothing, and created some UI to cycle through and equip or unequip each clothing item individually.

Only 2 sets currently (for testing) and the layering is weird. Will fix next.

More planning!

With only 12 days left of the gamejam, I need to really narrow down what the game will include.

I had originally intended to complete the entire base game. That means, enemies, puzzles, multiple items, and clothing, for each world… There are 17 worlds in the core game (1-2 worlds, completed, every day). I can’t do that.

So for the gamejam version, my new plan is to focus on what made the original Yume Nikki great. Exploration!

  • All the worlds, unlocked by default.
  • Clothing, but no effects for now.
  • No functional items.
  • No ending, yet.

Just fun exploration and fun character design.
